Thai/Kickboxing gloves are also used in Boxing.

BUYERS GUIDELINES

Sparring Gloves:

  • Usually 14oz - 16oz. There are 18oz - 20oz  for bigger guys and 10oz - 12oz for smaller people and juniors.
  • They are available in Velcro or lace up wrist fastening, velcro being the most popular for ease of removal during the different aspects of a training session.
  • Each brand has an individual cut and feel. It is important to get the right one for you!
  • Try to stick with a specialist brand, even if it is not a well known one. Many 'Sports' brands now produce a glove to meet a pricepoint. These have a limited lifespan and are not designed for regular long term use.
  • Most good gloves are made from cow-hide leather either wholly or in part. This helps with fit, comfort, safety & durability. They are designed to provide protection for both the users hands and the sparring partner.
  • There are two generally recognised styles (although each brand will have an individual feel and fit). Hammer head - which offers a flatter striking surface, and Safe-Spar, which is more rounded and offers an even greater degree of protection.
  • For bag and pad work use 10oz - 12oz

Contest Gloves:

  • For all styles a pro competition glove is either 8oz or 10oz. Usually lace up wrist fastening. Each description will identify the glove that is suitable for this purpose
